PPI Razor GTR Widebody R8 V10 - Ex Jon Olsson Gumball 3000

Details

Possibly to most bonkers Audi R8 on the planet! Built by ‘PPI Automotive Design GmbH’ in Germany, this car was commissioned by freeskier and alpine racer Jon Olsson. The Swedish Red Bull competitor built the car to use during the 2012 Gumball 3000 rally between New York and Los Angeles where it gained notoriety.

The Razor GTR Widebody is no ordinary body kit, every original panel was replaced with 600gram mesh carbon fibre offering a substantial weight saving as well as creating the unique look. The bespoke carbon fibre rear wing doubles as a support for the ski box which sits on the roof, a look that has become synonymous with Olsson’s Gumball cars.

The interior received a similar overhaul with a complete re-trim made up of red and black alcantara with contrasting stitching and of course, Olsson’s logo on the seats and carbon sill plates. The standard Audi seats have been replaced with lightweight race seats and the remnants of the 2-way radio system used for the rally still remain as do the twin antennas on the rear wing.

But this car is about far more than just aesthetics because under the carbon fibre skin lies a serious machine. Stertman Autosport in Sweden took the standard Audi V10 and uprated it with a Stasis / VF Engineering supercharger kit, Stasis custom ECU tune, BMC air filter and Stertman catless headers.

The addition of PSi Raceline Ohlins 2 way suspension ensured that the chassis was able to match the improved performance of the engine and likewise, stopping power was improved thanks to the PPI brake kit sitting inside a set of 20” forged ADV1 wheels. Olsson spent a reported $400,000 building this car to his exact specification.

Following Olsson’s ownership, the car had another owner in Sweden before coming to the UK in late 2014 forming part of a large private collection. In 2020 the car underwent a full service with Regal Autosport in Southampton and was treated to a light mechanical overhaul, ensuring anything that was required was done including updated pulleys and bets for supercharger, new ignition coil, oil temperature and pressure sensor, spark plugs, all fluids and new high pressure fuel pumps. Regal also applied their latest ECU software and had the car on their AWD dyno at 700bhp.

A true piece of Gumball history and must be seen to be appreciated.
